The George Hotel is situated in The High Street approximately 1Km from the train station. We have 23 en-suite rooms to offer. The 400 year old George Hotel with it's famous spiral staircase provides elegant accommodation with views over Battle Abbey towards Senlac Field (the site of the Battle of Hastings where English history changed forever).
Stay in a four poster bed and enjoy a full English breakfast before setting out to explore the many restaurants and shops of picturesque Battle town.
The spiral staircase, which is an original feature of the hotel, dates back 400 years and is mentioned in several books on local history.
All the rooms are en suite and most have baths with shower over. Some have only baths and others have just showers. Please make your preference clear at the time of booking.
Our family rooms are equipped with one double bed and one single. However we also have a double with bunk beds and cots are available. The hotel is well equipped for groups and, where possible, we ensure that a party have their own private wing.
Hospitality trays are available in all rooms, but if you would like a pot of tea or coffee served to your room, please ask a member of staff.
For over three hundred years, the George Hotel has been at the centre of life in historic Battle. As a coaching inn during the 18th century, the stagecoach from Hastings to London stopped here to change horses. Travellers used the inn for refreshment and accommodation before setting of on their long and often dangerous journey.
Today, The George is an elegant hotel, combining modern facilities with original features, principally the magnificent Adams spiral staircase which dates back to the early 18th century.
The hotel boasts views of Battle Abbey and is close to all the historic sites of the town. The most famous of these is Senlac Field, the site of the Battle of Hastings, where King Harold's weary troops were defeated by the Norman armies of William the Conqueror in 1066.
The Hotels newly installed telephone system enables guests to direct dial and access their e-mail's through the Internet. We also have the added benefit of free parking for our patrons, a rare commodity in a busy
