Dumfries and Galloway
Dumfries & Galloway is a mountainous region, with many peaks over 2000ft. The highest are "The Merrick" at 2764ft in the Galloway Hills and "White Coomb" in the Moffat Hills at 2696ft.
Dumfries and Galloway is the perfect place to enjoy walking. The region encapsulates all that is best about Scotland, with all the landscapes you could want resting side by side. Acres of sky, miles of rugged coastline, sandy beaches, mysterious forests, rolling hills, tranquil lochs and room to breathe.
Get even closer to nature and with over 1,300 miles of way marked trails you can discover somewhere new every day. With walks along coastal and forest trails, through open moorland or in and around our towns, you're sure to find a route to suit your ability and interests.
Perfect locations for a stroll though this winter include; The Parks in Dumfries, enjoy the beautful views at the Clints of Drumore, Gatehouse or get back to nature with a walk through the Eskrigg Reserve in Lockerbie.
The Moffat Hills - The legendary retreat of King Arthur's Merlin, favourite hiding place of the Border Reivers and home to the cascading beauty of the Grey Mare's Tail.
